What a day!! The mercury topped 45 degrees today. I pretty much shut myself inside and lay on the couch in front of a fan, with a wet towel draped over my skin. There was no way I was going out into that.

Thankfully a coolish change blew in around 4pm, or was it later… the temperature immediately dropped by 10 degrees. It’s now 26 degrees and completely lovely out there.

The power went out for a couple of hours around 6.30pm. I’d been debating going to the shops, so given that I now had nothing to do at home, I jumped on the bike and cycled up to Sydney Road. All of the boom gates were down on the Upfield Line due to the power being out and Sydders Rd itself had no traffic lights. Most businesses were shut however Barkly Square was running on generators so I grabbed some salad for dinner and some batteries for my trusty radio. It wasn’t until I got home and got the radio going again that I realised how widespread the black outs were. According to the radio over 500, 000 homes across Victoria had no power, 8 train lines had been cancelled, people were being rescued from lifts in the city as the majority of buildings had no power, fires were burning, it was rather chaotic out there.

Richard and I set ourselves up outside, in the cooling breeze and prepared for an evening with the guitar and candle light. Then the power came on. I was kinda disappointed!!

Tomorrow is meant to be 37, we don’t have a day under 30 degrees forecast until next Friday. One could certainly say that after a slow start, Summer has definitely arrived!!!
